My Sewing Niche

I revamped my sewing area this weekend.  We took a trip to IKEA in hopes of finding a bookshelf to house all of my fabrics.  I’ve recently acquired a whole load of new fabrics, hand-my-downs from my sister-in-law and friend, and I needed a beautiful place to store them all.

I am quite happy with how it turned out, but I am thinking that I might quickly outgrow it.  If my fabric stash keeps growing at the rate it’s currently growing at, I am soon going to need to rent a warehouse!  Someday I hope to have my own craft room, but since we are currently renting a small house, that is not yet an option.

This week I made Phad Thai for the first time.  It turned out quite delicious, subtle, but nice flavor.  Here’s the recipe I used:

PHAD THAI

  • 1 (12 ounce) package rice noodles
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/8 tablespoon crushed red pepper
  • 2 cups bean sprouts
  • 1/4 cup crushed peanuts
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges

Directions:

  1. Soak rice noodles in cold water 30 to 50 minutes, or until soft. Drain, and set aside.
  2. Heat butter in a wok or large heavy skillet. Saute chicken until browned. Remove, and set aside. Heat oil in wok over medium-high heat. Crack eggs into hot oil, and cook until firm. Stir in chicken, and cook for 5 minutes. Add softened noodles, and vinegar, fish sauce, sugar and red pepper. Adjust seasonings to taste. Mix while cooking, until noodles are tender. Add bean sprouts, and mix for 3 minutes.

  1. We should go to Ikea when you are here and I’ll get one too! I think I’m going to try your recipe tomorrow, it looks so good!
    Love ya!

  2. Hey Sista,

The sewing room looks great! It is nice to get organized, isn’t it?

  3. Love the sewing area! I am hoping to get a sewing/craft area set up at some point, though I’m working on getting the rest of the house organized/decluttered first. Your house looks so cute in the snow picture in your other post, you must love it. What is your schedule like these days? I’d love to have a sewing get-together, I have all of these projects I want to work on but never get to them. Plus I’d like to hang out with you. 🙂 I could probably manage to find someone to watch Stella.

  4. That looks lovely! Yay for fabric stashes! It really is important for any sewer and yours was piddly. 😉 But watch out, they start to grow like wildfire!

  5. You have a blog too! Love those fabrics. LOVE the picture of the pad thai. Come over and teach me how to make it. Haven’t found the guts to make Thai food for Jae yet. (That’s okay because I still enjoy listening to him speak Thai whenever we order Thai food!)

  6. Hey lady Sarah! I found your cutie little blog! I love when people have blogs–I feel like I’m keeping in touch in a sort of strange way. Anyway, love your sewing room–I had no idea you were a sewer!
Miss you guys! hugs and kisses….s

  7. Hi Sarah,
thank you for coming over to my blog and leaving a comment. It was very much appreciated. The pattern for the underwear is not mine. I used the Jalie women’s underwear pattern #2568. It comes with a camisole and 3 styles of underwear: Brazilian hipster, hipster and bikini. You can purchase it online on the Jalie website! Keep up the great work! Josie

  8. I need an update!
